The Art Appreciation Group will be visiting the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens on the 18th of August to see Canaletto’s much acclaimed masterpiece A regatta on the Grand Canal.
On loan from the National Gallery, the Sunderland venue is one of only three in the country to host the painting, which dates to around 1740.
Depicting a gondola race during an annual carnival in Venice, the highly detailed painting is held as one of the finest works by the artist.
Members to meet in Main Entrance at 10 am on Tuesday the 18th of August
