Alnwick and Gardens

Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Alnwick. !

Yes, a good time was had by all.

For once it wasn’t raining and although cloudy it was comfortable walking around. We started with a stop in  Morpeth for a quick look around and the usual coffee and scones. !

Then it was on to Alnwick. Some went into town but the majority went straight into the castle grounds. We got a good discount because we were a group and the payment was well worth it.

One of the first things we saw was the beautiful tired step fountain that comes on at 20 mins intervals.

The gardens are vast with many specialised areas such as the poison garden tour with many gruesome tales of murder both factual and stories from fiction. The most deadly were fenced off as was the marijuana plants.

Of course the Tree house is impressive and the dream of every small girl or boy.

The castle is very grand and I found it unusual in that, some of the huge  portraits are modern  members of the family. It gave a feeling of it still being a family home.

The Duchess of Northumberland has certainly inspired ideas that have made this a great day out.
