Do You Recycle?

Following successful visits to the following two centres last summer, I am happy to arrange further trips if there is sufficient interest.
The two visits show how waste is being diverted from landfill and put to better
use. Preference will be given to those people who could not attend last year
on the dates arranged.
This shows what happens to the contents of our recycling bins and its progress
through various stages until everything ends up being useful in one way or
another. We will have a co-ordinator who will give an interesting presentation
to be followed by a site tour. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
The trip can last between 2 and 2.5 hours and refreshments can be provided.
Also, facilities for packed lunches for those, like me, who cannot go long
without sustenance. Around 20 members can be accommodated at any given
This shows us what happens to contents of our general waste bin. We see the
bin-lorries arrive and are taken on a guided tour to see the process of the
waste eventually turned into energy to power 30,000 homes in Teesside. We
will visit the control room, furnace and turbine areas of the plant.
There is a maximum of 10 people per visit as the tours are run by engineers
who work on site. Visitors are asked to wear long sleeves, trousers and flat
shoes. This does necessitate some stairs so may not be suitable for anyone
with limited mobility.
If you need further information, please contact me on or telephone 07817 197351.
Please register your interest either personally, at the next meeting, or mail or
phone. This is not a booking – once I have collected sufficient names, I will
contact you again with further information and options for attendance.
