The meeting today was a little unusual in that the speaker, Ron Lawson, did not really speak much but instead showed pictures of Seaham and District pubs and then Sunderland in the Swinging Sixties.
The pictures of Seaham and District included pubs, restaurants and off licenses in Seaham, Murton, Hawthorn, Dalton-le-Dale and Seaton. The pictures showed the places in years gone by and then again in more recent years and brought back many memories for those watching.
Then the pictures of Sunderland in the Swinging Sixties were accompanied by music and showed much of Sunderland Town Centre, Seaburn, Roker and the sea front as well as some of Pallion and the shipyards. Everyone recognised something and it was a great talking point as people remembered the places and events. All in all a very enjoyable, nostalgic experience that I’m sure everyone loved.
Well done to our speaker secretary Edna for such a fantastic and varied programme.
