Our first full meeting as a newly established U3A took place on the 24th June 2015. I am pleased to report that even though this is a new chapter of the U3A, things are going well.
We now have 72 members, 58 attended the meeting on the 24th. This was our first full meeting with monthly meetings held on the last Wednesday of each month between 10am and 12pm. If you are already a member then it is £2 to attend, tea and coffee is included. Plus each month we have a guest speaker.
This month our guest speakers were Sunderland Magistrates in the Community, giving an interesting talk on the role of magistrates. After the guest spot, there were lots of questions from our members which were all willingly answered. In fact the magistrates enjoyed our company so much that an offer was made for members to visit Sunderland Magistrates court (exact details are yet to be arranged).
One of the magistrates giving the talk was so impressed by the friendliness of our members that she even asked if she could join Seaham and District U3A!
We look forward to welcoming our members back next month where the guest speaker will be from St Benedicts Hospice, and if you are not a member yet there will be an opportunity to join.
