My name is Karyan, and I am the Volunteer Engagement Officer at Newcastle Castle. I’m getting in touch as we are currently recruiting new volunteers and would love to connect with community groups across the North East who may be interested in getting involved.
Newcastle Castle’s mission is to bring the story of the Castle and the city alive by engaging visitors and sharing our passion for cultural development through community involvement. We believe volunteers are absolutely key to this – they help us make the Castle a welcoming, inspiring, and meaningful place for both local people and visitors.
Our volunteering vision is to enable everyone to experience and care for the Castle’s buildings, ruins, and setting, by making volunteering accessible, inclusive, and rewarding. We are committed to building a diverse, supportive, and flexible volunteering offer that connects with local communities and creates a lasting legacy for the future.
We are currently looking for volunteers for the following roles:
Visitor Experience Assistant Volunteers
Supporting visitors during their visit, welcoming people into the Castle, sharing information, and helping create a positive and engaging atmosphere.
Tourist Information Hub Volunteers
Providing local information and recommendations, helping visitors make the most of their time in Newcastle and the wider region.
Living History Volunteers
Bringing the Castle’s past to life through informal interpretation, costume, and storytelling, helping visitors connect with Newcastle’s rich history in an engaging and memorable way.
We strive to ensure volunteers feel valued and supported, with opportunities to try new things, develop skills, meet new people, socialise and stay active. Roles are designed to be flexible, allowing people to volunteer in ways that suit their interests, experience, and availability.
