3. Tees Barrage and River Walk 17th April

Learn about the history of the industry that sprang up along the river Tees, the Tees Barrage, and the wildlife that has come back to the area. More details are in the attachment or on the website.

5. Hopetown Darlington 13th June

Hopetown Darlington, previously known as Head of Steam and formerly known as the Darlington Railway Centre and Museum, is a railway museum located on the 1825 route of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, which was the world’s first steam-powered passenger railway.

The day will include a 45 to 60-minute tour of the site plus a visit led by the A1 Steam Loco Trust where one of their volunteers will show you around their premises.

6. Victoria Tunnel Visit 17th September

Although not until September, registration for this visit is invited now. There is a maximum of 30 places available.

The Victoria Tunnel is a subterranean wagonway that runs under Newcastle from the Town Moor down to the River Tyne. It was built between 1839 and 1842 to transport coal from Leazes Main Colliery in Spital Tongues, to riverside staithes.
